Welcome to my Ocean page. Here you'll find info on environmental issues that concern the ocean, as well as pictures of selected areas.

Oceans cover 70% of the earth's surface. The ocean has always been thought as a place to go to relax, enjoy the surroundings, swim with family and friends. To be able to lye down, go for a swim, and not worry about chemicals, chlorine, dyes, or pollution. This used to be the way it was however, now a days, it no longer is. Pollution is a big problem that plague our oceans.

Some of the main problems are oil spills, toxic materials, dangerous debris, and the dumping of many other materials, such as garbage. Water carries pollution quickly and it is very hard to clean up or to even stop the source that causes it. This is what makes it such a big problem and so hard to deal with. The fact that oceans, rivers, and so on connect at points, and empty into each other. This furthers the struggle to keep our oceans clean. (Marine Institute 2000)

People think that oil spilling into the ocean is a rare thing, but the truth is that we only hear about the large devastating spills.  Million of gallons of oil are dumped into the ocean each year.

The graph below shows how many millions of gallons of oil each source puts into the oceans worldwide each year.

Why is the ocean blue? Because it reflects the sky. Why is the sky blue? Because it relfects the ocean.
Try to imagine a black sky.
